Your search Product Cards just got a new look

The way in which product cards are displayed in Motive’s search layer is one of the reasons why you, shop owners make the decision to jump into our search and discovery tool: they make their search results as attractive as those of big brands.
As you may already know, product cards are those bits shown in a grid when shoppers search, where the photos of the items, their price and some other info is displayed. They have to be visually appealing but very simple, so that shoppers don’t get lost and can make decisions easily.
Once you click on them, you already are in a product page, but shoppers love interacting with them without the need to go any further. That’s why evolving how they’re shown in your search layer, and how you can configure them in the Motive Playboard, is one of our main goals, and we want to keep improving them over time. Keep on reading to know all the new cool things we’ve developed for product cards.
Simple works best
What you expect from your own shops is our guiding star, and we’ve been listening to your feedback on how you’d like to have clearer product cards, so a few remarkable improvements have been introduced in our last release.
Product cards will always be an evergoing effort, as market trends and shopper understanding is getting clearer every day, but some changes were very much anticipated.
Aiming for simplicity, with the idea of helping shoppers know which item they’re interacting with, the product cards now display a shadow effect every time a shopper hovers over them in desktop mode.
With this emphasis on clarity, there are also some improvements in the information about the variants. This is evident in the add-to-cart button of the product card, which now varies depending on whether a given product has variations: If there aren’t any product variations, the add-to-cart text is shown, if there are, a new see-options button will be displayed to redirect the shopper to the product page. This makes the behaviour of the button more obvious, as previously, shoppers could struggle with knowing whether it would actually add the product to the cart or redirect them to the product details page.
The greatest design
We’ve also put some emphasis on the design, on top of the aforementioned improvements. These changes bring, first and foremost, a more professional look to your search results, while some other changes serve as a first step for granting you more customisation possibilities of how product cards are shown.
Among the strategic changes to the visuals that you can now see are some optimised font-size options that enable an improved readability in the search results. We’ve also introduced some other optimisation changes regarding image adjustment and the product card grid, whose previous divider lines have been removed for a more simple and less intrusive experience.
With regards to the changes you can act upon in the Motive Playboard, you can expect more customisation possibilities in the months to come.
Improving shopper experiences
These changes -and the ones we have in mind- allow you to keep on making your search part of your shop, ensuring every detail resonates with the configurations you have for your eCommerce
An enhanced search layer customisation, as well as a more simple and intuitive search results page aim to create the best possible searching journey to your users. Having a more seamless experience brings an increase in click through rate, even from the search results page.
On top of that, it enables a perfect sync between a shop and its search, as they aren’t but the same integrated experience from a shoppers’ perspective. You can also improve these numbers by mitigating the appearance of No Results.
Don’t forget to update your plugin
For all these improvements to be available in your search layer, mind that your Motive version must be v2.4 or higher, so, if you haven't updated it yet, please don’t wait much longer!
As said earlier, this is one of the many steps that we’ve taken together in improving the experiences of shoppers when using the search box of a shop. There are still changes to be implemented and a constant aim for improvement.
You, as a shop owner, play the biggest of roles in understanding shops and how they display products. All these changes have been added thanks to your feedback and we will always be open to know more about what you think about that, and everything Motive, so please keep on contacting us to let us know what you have in mind.
